A century-old American brand that built its name on all-terrain and truck tires, now Goodyear's value tier. Strong Discoverer line-up, generous kilometre figures — and no road-hazard coverage at all.
Cooper started in Akron, Ohio in 1914 and spent most of its life as the largest independent tire maker in North America, before Goodyear bought it in 2021. The independent streak still shows in the product: Cooper builds tires for people who actually use their trucks, and the Discoverer range — AT3, Rugged Trek, Snow Claw, S/T MAXX — is deeper in genuinely off-road-capable patterns than most brands at this price.
For everyday driving the Endeavor and CS5 touring lines are the value play, and Cooper's published kilometre figures are high for the money. One thing to know before you compare: Cooper's tread wear warranty is prorated from the very first kilometre — there is no free-replacement period on wear — and Cooper states plainly that it provides no road-hazard coverage.
Cooper's Canadian booklet is unusually blunt, and worth reading for that reason. Standard coverage replaces a defective tire free inside the first 2/32" of wear. Tread wear protection is prorated from kilometre one — Cooper spells out that there is no free replacement period. And under the heading "NO ROAD HAZARD COVERAGE" it says outright that Cooper does not provide it and suggests you ask your dealer.
If you are not satisfied with a replacement Cooper passenger or light-truck radial for any reason outside the exclusion list, return it to the original dealer within 45 days for a free-of-charge Cooper-brand replacement. You need the warranty booklet, proof of purchase, and to be the original owner. Note the wording: the free replacement is Cooper-brand only, not a refund.
A Cooper radial that becomes unserviceable from an eligible adjustable condition during the first 2/32" (1.6 mm) of tread wear is replaced free with an equivalent new Cooper tire. Past 2/32", you pay a replacement charge calculated as the dealer's current selling price multiplied by the percentage of original tread worn off, plus mounting, balancing and taxes. Coverage ends at 2/32" remaining or 72 months from purchase, whichever comes first.
A separate, prorated-only warranty. Rotate at least every 13,000 km (8,000 miles) and have it recorded — Cooper asks for the booklet, the original receipt, date of purchase, vehicle details, odometer reading and the rotation record. If the tire wears to 2/32" short of the warranted distance, your replacement cost is actual kilometres delivered divided by kilometres warranted, times the current selling price of an equivalent Cooper tire.
Two different things, often confused: a treadwear (mileage) warranty is not the defect warranty, and it is not a promise the tire will last that far. It means that if the tread wears out evenly before the listed distance (with rotation records in order), the manufacturer credits the unused percentage toward a replacement — you still pay the rest. Manufacturing defects are covered separately by the defect warranty above, which has its own free-replacement window and total term.

First thing to know: the warranty belongs to the manufacturer, not the store. Tires bought from us can be claimed at any authorized dealer of that brand anywhere in the country — if you move away, or something goes wrong on a road trip, you do not have to drive back to Markham for us to handle it. (Two notes: the satisfaction trial exchange is the exception, which the manufacturers require you to do at the original place of purchase; and warehouse chains such as Costco and Canadian Tire generally only process claims on tires they sold themselves, so call ahead — that is their store policy, not the warranty.)
