Yokohama Tires

A Japanese maker with two clear strengths: the ADVAN performance range that came out of motorsport, and the Geolandar SUV and truck family. Long touring figures — up to 130,000 km — but the warranty clock runs on years as well as kilometres.

About Yokohama

The Yokohama Rubber Company was founded in 1917 and has spent decades in motorsport — the ADVAN name comes from that side of the business and still carries it, from the A052 track tire to the ADVAN Sport fitted as original equipment on European performance cars. On the other end, AVID Ascend and Geolandar are the quiet everyday lines we sell most.

One thing sets Yokohama's Canadian warranty apart from most: the treadwear warranty has a years cap as well as a kilometre cap, and the two are listed line by line. An AVID Ascend LX is 130,000 km or five years; an ADVAN Apex is 40,000 km or three years. If you drive 8,000 km a year, the years number is the one that will decide your claim, not the kilometres.

Yokohama Warranty in Canada, in Detail

Yokohama Canada publishes three consumer programs: a limited warranty for workmanship and materials, a limited treadwear warranty with a per-line kilometre-and-years table, and an annual 30-day guarantee on a named list of tires. The free-replacement window is unusually generous — the first 25% of usable tread, where most brands stop at the first 2/32".

Defect warranty First 25% of tread Free replacement, mounted and balanced — a wide window
Treadwear warranty Up to 130,000 km Every line also has a 3-, 4- or 5-year cap
Satisfaction guarantee 30 days Full refund, sets of 4, named lines, 2026 program
Road hazard None published Road hazard damage is in the exclusions

Limited warranty (workmanship & materials)

During the first 25% of original usable tread depth (50% on a temporary spare), Yokohama replaces, mounts and balances a similar new Yokohama tire at no charge. After that you pay the percentage of original usable tread worn off multiplied by the CRV — Yokohama's Current Replacement Value, defined as 80% of the suggested retail price — plus mounting, balancing and taxes. Coverage runs four years from the purchase date with the original invoice, or five years from the date of manufacture without it.

Limited treadwear warranty

Each line carries both a kilometre figure and a years figure, whichever comes first. The warranty applies only if the Tire Service Schedule is followed and validated on the Tire Service Registration Card at every service: rotation and inspection, air pressure set to the vehicle placard, and wheel alignment and balance checks — at least every 8,000 km on front-wheel-drive vehicles and every 12,000 km on rear- and four-wheel-drive.

30-day guarantee (2026 program)

Valid January 1 to December 31, 2026 on a set of four applicable tires from an authorized Canadian Yokohama dealer: ADVAN Sport EV A/S, AVID Ascend GT, Geolandar CV 4S G061, Geolandar CV G058, Geolandar A/T4 G018, iceGUARD IG53, iceGUARD G075, BluEarth Winter V905 and BluEarth Winter V906. Return them within 30 days with the original receipt and the dealer refunds the tires in full — installation and balancing charges are not covered. Tires with more than 1/32" of wear, road-hazard damage, or a mail-in rebate already submitted are excluded, and claims are rejected once 90 days have passed.

Treadwear warranty by product line (km)

Two different things, often confused: a treadwear (mileage) warranty is not the defect warranty, and it is not a promise the tire will last that far. It means that if the tread wears out evenly before the listed distance (with rotation records in order), the manufacturer credits the unused percentage toward a replacement — you still pay the rest. Manufacturing defects are covered separately by the defect warranty above, which has its own free-replacement window and total term.

Product line Treadwear warranty Notes
AVID Ascend LX / AVID Touring-S 130,000 km · 5 years Highest Yokohama figure
Geolandar H/T G056 115,000 km · 4 years · LT: 80,000 km · 3 years SUV and light-truck highway
AVID Ascend GT 110,000 km · 5 years Covered by the 2026 30-day guarantee
Geolandar A/T4 G018 105,000 km · 5 years (P/ISO) · 85,000 km · 4 years (LT) All-terrain
Geolandar A/T G015 100,000 km · 4 years · LT: 80,000 km · 3 years
Geolandar CV G058 100,000 km · 4 years Crossover touring
ADVAN Sport A/S+ 90,000 km · 3 years · 45,000 km on mixed sizes W/Y rated; staggered fitments get half
Geolandar X-CV G057 80,000 km · 4 years
Geolandar X-AT G016 70,000 km · 3 years Rugged terrain
ADVAN Apex V601 40,000 km · 3 years · 20,000 km on mixed sizes Y rated UHP
iceGUARD / BluEarth Winter (winter) Not listed No treadwear figure; several are in the 30-day guarantee
  • The years cap matters as much as the kilometres. Three years on an ADVAN line goes by quickly on a weekend car, and the warranty ends when the earlier of the two is reached.
  • The Tire Service Registration Card has to be validated at each service — rotation, pressure, alignment and balance. That is a stricter record than most brands ask for.
  • Service interval is every 8,000 km on front-wheel drive and every 12,000 km on rear- and four-wheel drive.
  • Mixed-size (staggered) fitments get half the listed distance.

What the warranty does not cover

  • Road hazard damage and accidents
  • Improper inflation and overloading
  • Wheel misalignment and incorrect tire sizing
  • Running the tire flat
  • Tires on vehicles registered or normally operated outside Canada
  • Tires not bought from an authorized Canadian Yokohama dealer, or without the original invoice

How to claim at Taylor Tire

First thing to know: the warranty belongs to the manufacturer, not the store. Tires bought from us can be claimed at any authorized dealer of that brand anywhere in the country — if you move away, or something goes wrong on a road trip, you do not have to drive back to Markham for us to handle it. (Two notes: the satisfaction trial exchange is the exception, which the manufacturers require you to do at the original place of purchase; and warehouse chains such as Costco and Canadian Tire generally only process claims on tires they sold themselves, so call ahead — that is their store policy, not the warranty.)

  1. Bring the tire and the original purchase invoice from an authorized Canadian dealer — Yokohama requires it by name. For a treadwear claim, bring the Tire Service Registration Card with the service entries validated.
  2. We measure the remaining tread, calculate the prorated share against the CRV and submit the claim to Yokohama Tire (Canada).
  3. You pay for the replacement tire on the day. This is the same for every brand: the manufacturer only settles after the tire reaches them and they have inspected it, so the new tire is a normal purchase up front — that is not us, it is how tire warranty adjustments work.
  4. Once the manufacturer inspects and approves, we refund you — by e-transfer, or in cash if you would rather drop by. How much comes back follows the terms above: the full amount inside the free-replacement window, a prorated share after that.

Warranty FAQ

What is the CRV in Yokohama's prorated calculation?

Current Replacement Value — Yokohama defines it as 80% of the suggested retail price. Your prorated charge is the percentage of usable tread worn off times that CRV, plus mounting, balancing and taxes.

Yokohama's free replacement runs to 25% of tread — is that better than other brands?

On that one point, yes. Most brands stop free replacement at the first 2/32", which on a 10/32" tire is 20% and is usually also capped at 12 months. Yokohama's 25% has no month limit inside the four-year term. The trade-off is that Yokohama publishes no road-hazard program.

Which Yokohama tires are in the 30-day guarantee?

For 2026: ADVAN Sport EV A/S, AVID Ascend GT, Geolandar CV 4S G061, Geolandar CV G058, Geolandar A/T4 G018, iceGUARD IG53 and G075, and BluEarth Winter V905 and V906 — sets of four only, full refund of the tires, installation charges not included.
