Nokian Tyres Tires

The company that invented the winter tire, from a country that needs one. Worth knowing for the warranty alone: Pothole Protection covers road-hazard damage until the tread drops below 60%, where most brands stop at the first 2/32".

About Nokian Tyres

Nokian Tyres was founded in Nokia, Finland in 1932 and built the world's first winter tire two years later. Nearly a century on, that is still where the brand's authority sits: the Hakkapeliitta name is the reference point other winter tires get measured against, and the company tests at its own proving ground above the Arctic Circle.

A note on availability before anything else: Nokian is not in our regular catalogue, so there is no stock to browse and no shelf price to quote from a page. If you want a set, talk to us — we will check what can be sourced, at what price, and how long it takes. Everything below about the Canadian warranty is accurate and comes from Nokian's own 2026 consumer promises document; it just applies to a tire we order rather than one we stock.

Nokian Tyres Warranty in Canada, in Detail

Nokian publishes what it calls Consumer Promises, and the package is one of the better ones in the market: workmanship and materials, a treadwear warranty on selected lines, a Pothole Protection road-hazard program on the Aramid-reinforced tires, and a 30-day satisfaction guarantee that gives an actual refund rather than an exchange.

Pothole protection 1 year or 60% tread Free replacement if a road hazard makes it unrepairable
Satisfaction guarantee 30 days, full refund Sets of 4 only; taxes and fitting not refunded
Defect warranty 12 months / 25% tread free Then prorated, to 5 years from purchase
Treadwear warranty Up to 130,000 km Nokian Tyres ONE; selected lines only

Pothole Protection Program

Running since January 1, 2024 on Nokian products built with Aramid technology: Surpass AS01, Nokian ONE, ONE HT, Outpost APT, Outpost nAT, Remedy WRG5 and WRC3. If an authorized retailer finds an eligible tire unserviceable from a road hazard — puncture, cut, snag, stone drill, impact or bruise break — and it cannot be repaired, it is replaced at no cost with an equivalent new Nokian tire. The coverage period runs until either the remaining usable tread drops below 60%, or twelve months from purchase, whichever comes first. If the tire can be repaired, you pay for the repair. Mounting, balancing, towing, valve stems and taxes are yours, and commercial applications are excluded.

30-day satisfaction guarantee

If within 30 days of purchase you are not completely satisfied, return the tires with the original sales receipt to the place of purchase for a full refund of the purchase price — excluding taxes and mounting and balancing costs. Full sets of four only, from an authorized Nokian retailer, and no tire in the set may have more than 2/32" of treadwear. One set per customer; the replacement set is not itself covered.

Workmanship & material warranty

If a claim is submitted within twelve months of purchase and no more than 25% of the original usable tread is worn, an eligible tire is replaced at no charge — you pay mounting, balancing and taxes. Past that, the replacement cost is the retailer's current selling price times the percentage of original tread worn off. Coverage ends at five years from retail purchase, six years from manufacture, or when the tread reaches 2/32", whichever comes first.

Treadwear warranty by product line (km)

Two different things, often confused: a treadwear (mileage) warranty is not the defect warranty, and it is not a promise the tire will last that far. It means that if the tread wears out evenly before the listed distance (with rotation records in order), the manufacturer credits the unused percentage toward a replacement — you still pay the rest. Manufacturing defects are covered separately by the defect warranty above, which has its own free-replacement window and total term.

Product line Treadwear warranty Notes
Nokian Tyres ONE 130,000 km Highest Nokian figure
Nokian Tyres ONE HT 115,000 km (P-metric) · 90,000 km (LT-metric) SUV and light-truck highway
Nokian Tyres Outpost APT 105,000 km All-purpose terrain
Nokian Tyres Outpost nAT 100,000 km All-terrain
Nokian Tyres Remedy WRG5 100,000 km All-weather (severe-snow rated)
Nokian Tyres Surpass AS01 90,000 km
Nordman Solstice 4 80,000 km Value all-weather
Hakkapeliitta (winter) Not listed The winter range carries no treadwear warranty
  • Treadwear claims must be submitted as a set of four evenly worn tires — Nokian says so explicitly, which is stricter than most brands that will look at a single tire.
  • Rotation: first at 8,046 km (5,000 miles), then at least every 12,070 km (7,500 miles), documented with date, mileage and where it was serviced.
  • Split fitments are eligible, but because the tires cannot be rotated, each rear tire is warranted for half the listed distance.
  • Non-fleet, non-commercial use only.

What the warranty does not cover

  • Road hazards outside the Pothole Protection program — puncture, cuts, impacts and bruise breaks
  • Damage from tire chains, wheel spinning or lost studs
  • Overload, improper inflation and wheel misalignment
  • Improper mounting
  • Aging, intentional alteration, racing and vandalism
  • Exposure to solvents or oils
  • Failure to meet the rotation and maintenance obligations
  • Uneven wear, or any tire in a treadwear claim that is not part of an evenly worn set of four

How to claim at Taylor Tire

First thing to know: the warranty belongs to the manufacturer, not the store. Tires bought from us can be claimed at any authorized dealer of that brand anywhere in the country — if you move away, or something goes wrong on a road trip, you do not have to drive back to Markham for us to handle it. (Two notes: the satisfaction trial exchange is the exception, which the manufacturers require you to do at the original place of purchase; and warehouse chains such as Costco and Canadian Tire generally only process claims on tires they sold themselves, so call ahead — that is their store policy, not the warranty.)

  1. Because Nokian is an order-in for us, start by talking to us — we will confirm which authorized channel the set came through and what the claim route is. Bring the tire and the proof of purchase showing the date.
  2. For a pothole-protection claim the retailer decides, at their discretion, whether the tire is repairable; if it is, the repair is at your cost. For a treadwear claim, bring all four tires and the documented rotation history.
  3. You pay for the replacement tire on the day. This is the same for every brand: the manufacturer only settles after the tire reaches them and they have inspected it, so the new tire is a normal purchase up front — that is not us, it is how tire warranty adjustments work.
  4. Once the manufacturer inspects and approves, we refund you — by e-transfer, or in cash if you would rather drop by. How much comes back follows the terms above: the full amount inside the free-replacement window, a prorated share after that.

Warranty FAQ

Can I buy Nokian tires from Taylor Tire?

Not off the shelf — Nokian is not in our regular catalogue, so there is no browsable stock or listed price. Contact us with the size and model you want and we will quote what we can source, including the lead time.

Is Nokian's Pothole Protection better than the other road-hazard programs?

On the tread window, clearly yes: coverage runs until remaining tread drops below 60%, where Hankook, Nexen and Kumho stop at the first 2/32" — roughly the first 20% of the tire. The time limit is the same twelve months, and it only applies to the Aramid-built lines.

Do Hakkapeliitta winter tires have a treadwear warranty?

No. The treadwear list covers the ONE, Outpost, Remedy, Surpass and Nordman Solstice lines only. Hakkapeliitta tires still get the workmanship warranty and the 30-day satisfaction guarantee, and the WRC3 is in the Pothole Protection list.

Does the 30-day guarantee actually refund money?

Yes — a full refund of the purchase price, excluding taxes and the mounting and balancing charges. It applies only to full sets of four with no more than 2/32" of wear.

Terms above are transcribed from the manufacturer's official Canadian documents (verified 2026-08). Manufacturers can revise terms; their current official documents govern:
