About Hankook

Hankook has been building tires in Korea since 1941 and is now original equipment on a long list of German and Korean cars — you will find it on BMWs, Audis, Mercedes, Hyundais and Kias coming off the line. In the last decade it has moved decisively out of the value bracket: the Ventus and Dynapro lines compete on performance, not just price.

The reason we bring Hankook up so often at the counter is the warranty. It is one of very few brands sold here with a published road-hazard replacement program, it has a 30-day free trial, and the Kinergy PT carries a 145,000 km treadwear warranty — the highest number on any tire in our catalogue. Read the conditions before you count on the road-hazard part: it only runs for the first 2/32" of tread or one year, whichever comes first.

Hankook Warranty in Canada, in Detail

Hankook publishes a proper four-part package in its Canadian booklet: workmanship and materials, a road hazard warranty on named product lines, a treadwear mileage warranty, and a 30-day free trial. The road-hazard piece is the one worth understanding — it is a genuine free replacement for a non-repairable puncture or impact break, but the window is short and it does not cover repairable punctures.

Road hazard First 2/32" or 1 year Free replacement on non-repairable damage, listed lines only
Free trial 30 days 4–6 tires per vehicle; mounting and balancing included
Defect warranty 1 yr free, 6 yrs total Free replacement does not apply to snow tires
Treadwear warranty Up to 145,000 km Kinergy PT — the highest figure in our catalogue

Road Hazard Warranty

If a covered tire is rendered unserviceable by a non-repairable road hazard, it is replaced free of charge with a comparable Hankook tire — but only within the first 2/32" of its original tread depth and within one year of purchase. Taxes, mounting, balancing and service charges are yours. Covered lines include Ventus S1 evo3, S1 AS, V12 evo2, S1 Noble2, V2 Concept2, V4 ES; Kinergy XP, GT, PT, ST, 4s2 and 4s2 X; Optimo H727/H426/H725; Dynapro AT2 Xtreme, HPX, HP2 and the P-metric AT-m, HT and AT2; and the Winter i*cept evo3/evo3 x/evo2/evo2 SUV/iZ/iZ32. Repairable punctures, OE tires, run-flats and studded tires are excluded, and a tire replaced under road hazard is not covered a second time.

30 Day Free Trial

Not 100% satisfied for any reason? Bring the tires and proof of purchase back within 30 days for a new set of Hankook tires. It applies to purchases of 4–6 tires per vehicle (1–3 tires do not qualify), you can exchange any number from the set, mounting and balancing are included (valve stems and TPMS kits are not), and the swap has to happen where you bought them. Pay the difference if you trade up; get a credit if you trade down.

Workmanship & materials

During the first 2/32" of original usable tread and within one year of purchase, a defective tire is replaced with a comparable new Hankook free of charge, including mounting and balancing (taxes are yours). After either limit is passed, you get a credit equal to the dealer's current selling price times the percentage of tread remaining. Coverage runs six years from purchase, or six years from manufacture — whichever benefits you. Note the exception written into the booklet: the free-replacement workmanship warranty does not apply to snow tires.

Treadwear warranty by product line (km)

Two different things, often confused: a treadwear (mileage) warranty is not the defect warranty, and it is not a promise the tire will last that far. It means that if the tread wears out evenly before the listed distance (with rotation records in order), the manufacturer credits the unused percentage toward a replacement — you still pay the rest. Manufacturing defects are covered separately by the defect warranty above, which has its own free-replacement window and total term.

  • Rotation at least every 12,000 km with a rotation record is mandatory — Hankook asks for the installation record, the rotation record and the removal record together with the tire.
  • Staggered fitments get half the warranted distance on the rear tires when rotation every 12,000 km is not possible.
  • Tires with more than 4/32" of tread left will not be accepted for a mileage claim, and wear has to be even — less than 2/32" difference shoulder to shoulder.
  • Original-equipment tires, run-flats and commercial use (ride share, taxi, courier) carry no mileage warranty.

What the warranty does not cover

  • Road hazards outside the road-hazard program — and repairable punctures are never covered
  • Willful abuse, collision, wreck or fire
  • Continued use while flat or severely under/over inflated
  • Premature or irregular wear from vehicle mechanical faults or poor maintenance
  • Improper mounting, wrong tire size, improper repair or storage, modifications
  • Cosmetic ozone or weather cracking, and any weather cracking after four years from manufacture
  • Ride disturbance complaints after 2/32" of wear or one year, whichever is first
  • Racing, off-road use and commercial service

How to claim at Taylor Tire

First thing to know: the warranty belongs to the manufacturer, not the store. Tires bought from us can be claimed at any authorized dealer of that brand anywhere in the country — if you move away, or something goes wrong on a road trip, you do not have to drive back to Markham for us to handle it. (Two notes: the satisfaction trial exchange is the exception, which the manufacturers require you to do at the original place of purchase; and warehouse chains such as Costco and Canadian Tire generally only process claims on tires they sold themselves, so call ahead — that is their store policy, not the warranty.)

  1. Bring the tire and a copy of the original purchase receipt to us. For a mileage claim, the rotation record proving 12,000 km intervals is not optional — it is the single most common reason a Hankook mileage claim fails.
  2. We complete Hankook's claim adjustment form, measure the remaining tread, mark the tire and submit to Hankook Tire Canada in Mississauga. Tires stay with us for at least 30 days or until credit comes through, because Hankook may ask for a physical inspection.
  3. You pay for the replacement tire on the day. This is the same for every brand: the manufacturer only settles after the tire reaches them and they have inspected it, so the new tire is a normal purchase up front — that is not us, it is how tire warranty adjustments work.
  4. Once the manufacturer inspects and approves, we refund you — by e-transfer, or in cash if you would rather drop by. How much comes back follows the terms above: the full amount inside the free-replacement window, a prorated share after that.

Warranty FAQ

Does Hankook really replace a tire I destroyed on a pothole?

On the listed product lines, yes — free replacement if the damage is non-repairable, the tire is still within the first 2/32" of tread, and you are within one year of purchase. You pay the mounting, balancing and taxes. Miss any of those three conditions and it is not covered.

Is the 145,000 km Kinergy PT figure real?

It is the published Canadian figure, and it is the highest we can offer. But a treadwear warranty is not a promise the tire lasts that far — it means Hankook prorates a credit if it wears out early, provided your rotation records are complete.

Do Hankook winter tires get the free defect replacement?

No — the booklet notes that the free-replacement workmanship warranty does not apply to snow tires. Winter tires still get the prorated credit, the 30-day trial, and in several cases (iZ2, iZ3, evo2, evo3) a mileage warranty.

Can I use the 30-day trial if I only bought two tires?

No. The trial applies to purchases of 4–6 tires per vehicle; 1–3 tires are explicitly not eligible.

Terms above are transcribed from the manufacturer's official Canadian documents (verified 2026-08). Manufacturers can revise terms; their current official documents govern:
