About Dunlop

Dunlop traces back to 1888, when John Boyd Dunlop's pneumatic tire made the modern bicycle — and then the modern car — possible. The brand has been split by geography for decades: in North America, Dunlop passenger and light-truck tires are made, sold and warranted by Goodyear, while in Japan and Europe the Dunlop name belongs to Sumitomo Rubber Industries. If you have read a Dunlop review from the UK or Japan, it is not describing the same product line you can buy here.

In our shop Dunlop shows up mostly two ways: as original equipment on a lot of Japanese and German cars, and as the Winter Maxx family, which is a genuinely good ice tire at a price below the top-tier names. The Signature touring line is the quiet, long-wearing everyday option — 105,000 km on the Signature II is the highest figure Goodyear publishes for a Dunlop in Canada.

Dunlop Warranty in Canada, in Detail

Because Goodyear runs Dunlop in North America, Dunlop tires bought in Canada sit under Goodyear's warranty machinery: the same Highway Auto & Light Truck Replacement Limited Warranty for defects, a published Dunlop tread life table, and a 45-day satisfaction guarantee (shorter than Goodyear-brand's own 60-day program). Same as Goodyear: no road-hazard coverage.

Satisfaction guarantee 45 days Signature II, Winter Maxx 2 and Winter Maxx SJ8
Defect warranty 1 yr free, 6 yrs total Goodyear's replacement warranty text applies
Treadwear warranty Up to 105,000 km Signature II is the top Dunlop figure in Canada
Road hazard None Not offered on Goodyear-family replacement tires

Dunlop 45-Day Satisfaction Guarantee

On eligible Dunlop tires — Signature II, Winter Maxx 2 and Winter Maxx SJ8 — you have 45 days to exchange them for a different set of Dunlop, Goodyear, Cooper, Kelly or Mastercraft tires. Return to the store that sold them with the original sales receipt. Mounting and balancing are included, valve stems are extra, and you pay or receive the price difference. Replacement tires are not re-covered.

Replacement Limited Warranty (workmanship & materials)

Free replacement — including mounting and balancing — for a defect found within the first 2/32" of usable tread or 12 months of purchase, whichever comes first. After that, prorated on tread used for up to six years from the purchase date. Prorated claims are subject to mounting, balancing, taxes and levies.

Tread Life Limited Warranty

Up to six years or the published kilometres, whichever comes first, prorated by the distance you did not get. The tire has to be worn evenly to 2/32", rotated on the prescribed pattern, and presented with the original invoice.

Treadwear warranty by product line (km)

Two different things, often confused: a treadwear (mileage) warranty is not the defect warranty, and it is not a promise the tire will last that far. It means that if the tread wears out evenly before the listed distance (with rotation records in order), the manufacturer credits the unused percentage toward a replacement — you still pay the rest. Manufacturing defects are covered separately by the defect warranty above, which has its own free-replacement window and total term.

Product line Treadwear warranty Notes
Signature II 105,000 km Highest Dunlop figure in Canada
Grandtrek AT20 95,000 km SUV all-terrain
Rover H/T 95,000 km (P-metric) · 75,000 km (LT) Light-truck highway
Signature CS 95,000 km Crossover touring
SP Sport Signature 95,000 km (H and V) Same figure both speed ratings
Signature HP 75,000 km High-performance touring
Winter Maxx (winter) Not listed Winter lines have no treadwear figure; the 45-day guarantee still applies
  • Goodyear publishes the Dunlop tread-life table on its own Canadian warranty site, alongside the Goodyear and Kelly tables — that is the authoritative source for Dunlop kilometres in Canada.
  • Newer Dunlop lines sold here may not appear on that table yet. Ask us to confirm the figure on the specific tire before you buy if it matters.
  • Rotation records and the original invoice are required for a treadwear claim, same as any Goodyear-family brand.

What the warranty does not cover

  • Road hazards — impact breaks, cuts, snags and punctures
  • Damage traceable to the vehicle's mechanical condition, misalignment or imbalance
  • Improper inflation, overloading and racing use
  • Intentional alterations to the tire
  • Weather-cracking on tires purchased more than four years earlier
  • Tires transferred to a different vehicle

How to claim at Taylor Tire

First thing to know: the warranty belongs to the manufacturer, not the store. Tires bought from us can be claimed at any authorized dealer of that brand anywhere in the country — if you move away, or something goes wrong on a road trip, you do not have to drive back to Markham for us to handle it. (Two notes: the satisfaction trial exchange is the exception, which the manufacturers require you to do at the original place of purchase; and warehouse chains such as Costco and Canadian Tire generally only process claims on tires they sold themselves, so call ahead — that is their store policy, not the warranty.)

  1. Bring the tires on the vehicle plus the original invoice; for a mileage claim add rotation records and odometer readings. Goodyear Consumer Assistance in Canada handles Dunlop too: 1-800-387-3288.
  2. We measure, document and submit through Goodyear Canada as the administrator for the Dunlop brand.
  3. You pay for the replacement tire on the day. This is the same for every brand: the manufacturer only settles after the tire reaches them and they have inspected it, so the new tire is a normal purchase up front — that is not us, it is how tire warranty adjustments work.
  4. Once the manufacturer inspects and approves, we refund you — by e-transfer, or in cash if you would rather drop by. How much comes back follows the terms above: the full amount inside the free-replacement window, a prorated share after that.

Warranty FAQ

Is a Dunlop I buy in Canada the same as a Dunlop in Europe or Japan?

No. In North America Dunlop passenger tires are Goodyear's; in Japan and Europe the brand belongs to Sumitomo Rubber Industries. Different factories, different product lines, different warranties — so overseas reviews may not describe what you are buying here.

Why is Dunlop's guarantee 45 days when Goodyear's is 60?

They are separate programs run by the same company — Goodyear-brand tires get 60 days, Dunlop and Kelly get 45. All of them let you exchange across the Goodyear family of brands.

Do Winter Maxx tires have a mileage warranty?

No — no winter line appears on the Canadian tread-life table. Winter Maxx 2 and SJ8 do carry the 45-day satisfaction guarantee and the standard defect warranty.

Terms above are transcribed from the manufacturer's official Canadian documents (verified 2026-08). Manufacturers can revise terms; their current official documents govern:
