About Firestone

Firestone was founded in Akron, Ohio in 1900, supplied the tires for the very first Indianapolis 500 winner in 1911, and has been part of the Bridgestone group since 1988. That racing heritage lives on in the Firehawk name, while the modern lineup earns its keep on ordinary cars, minivans and pickups.

For Canadian drivers the sweet spot is the Destination family on trucks and SUVs and WeatherGrip for all-weather use — Bridgestone engineering one price tier down. It is a strong answer when a Blizzak or Turanza quote runs past budget.

Firestone Warranty in Canada, in Detail

Firestone shares Bridgestone Canada's warranty manual (current edition effective January 1, 2024). Firestone's standard coverage is branded the "Gold Pledge" — and its terms are word-for-word the same as Bridgestone's Platinum Pact: 3 years free replacement, 5 years total, plus the 90-day Buy & Try trial.

Satisfaction trial 90 days "Buy & Try": exchange credit toward another Bridgestone/Firestone set
Defect warranty 3 yrs free, 5 yrs total Free replacement incl. mounting & balancing in the first 3 years
Treadwear warranty Up to 110,000 km Varies by line — see table
Winter tires (Winterforce) Prorated only No free-replacement window, no mileage warranty

Gold Pledge limited warranty

Eligible Firestone tires (winter and temporary spares excepted) that fail from a workmanship or material defect are replaced free — including mounting and balancing — for the first 3 years from purchase, then prorated to year 5. Coverage ends at 2/32" (1.6 mm) remaining tread, and tires more than 10 years from manufacture are no longer eligible.

90-Day Buy & Try guarantee

Same trial as Bridgestone: buy a set of 4 or more from a dealer, and within 90 days you can return them to the original store for an exchange credit toward a new Bridgestone or Firestone set. One set per vehicle per 12 months; excludes winter tires, factory-fitted tires and all Firestone run-flats.

Treadwear warranty by product line (km)

Two different things, often confused: a treadwear (mileage) warranty is not the defect warranty, and it is not a promise the tire will last that far. It means that if the tread wears out evenly before the listed distance (with rotation records in order), the manufacturer credits the unused percentage toward a replacement — you still pay the rest. Manufacturing defects are covered separately by the defect warranty above, which has its own free-replacement window and total term.

Product line Treadwear warranty Notes
Destination LE3 110,000 km LT and flotation sizes: no mileage warranty
Champion Fuel Fighter 110,000 km
WeatherGrip 105,000 km All-weather (severe-snow rated)
Destination A/T2 90,000 km
Destination X/T 80,000 km
Firehawk AS V2 80,000 km
Transforce HT / AT (commercial) No mileage warranty in commercial service; defect warranty still applies
Winterforce 2 (winter) Winter tires carry no mileage warranty
  • Mileage coverage is prorated only, for the original purchaser on the original vehicle, with proof of purchase and rotation records showing even wear.
  • Staggered fitments: front tires get the full listed distance, rear tires one-half of it.
  • Factory-fitted (OE) tires and tires in commercial service carry no mileage warranty.

What the warranty does not cover

  • Road hazard damage — punctures, cuts, impact breaks, bulges
  • Improper inflation, overloading, racing or other misuse
  • Lack of rotation, misalignment, improper mounting
  • Tire sealants or inflation with anything other than air or nitrogen
  • Weather/ozone cracking beyond 4 years from manufacture date
  • Tires purchased or used outside Canada

How to claim at Taylor Tire

First thing to know: the warranty belongs to the manufacturer, not the store. Tires bought from us can be claimed at any authorized dealer of that brand anywhere in the country — if you move away, or something goes wrong on a road trip, you do not have to drive back to Markham for us to handle it. (Two notes: the satisfaction trial exchange is the exception, which the manufacturers require you to do at the original place of purchase; and warehouse chains such as Costco and Canadian Tire generally only process claims on tires they sold themselves, so call ahead — that is their store policy, not the warranty.)

  1. Bring the tires and your original invoice to the shop; for mileage claims also bring rotation records and odometer readings. If we installed them, our records cover you.
  2. We inspect the tire, measure remaining tread and complete the Bridgestone Canada warranty adjustment form (it covers Firestone too).
  3. The claim goes to Bridgestone Canada for inspection; submitted tires become their property.
  4. You pay for the replacement tire on the day. This is the same for every brand: the manufacturer only settles after the tire reaches them and they have inspected it, so the new tire is a normal purchase up front — that is not us, it is how tire warranty adjustments work.
  5. Once the manufacturer inspects and approves, we refund you — by e-transfer, or in cash if you would rather drop by. How much comes back follows the terms above: the full amount inside the free-replacement window, a prorated share after that.

Warranty FAQ

Is Firestone's warranty weaker than Bridgestone's?

No — the Canadian manual gives both brands identical terms: 3 years free replacement, 5 years prorated, and the same 90-day Buy & Try. Only the per-line mileage figures differ.

Does the Destination LE3 mileage warranty apply to LT sizes?

No. The 110,000 km figure applies to passenger sizes; LT and flotation sizes of the LE3 carry no mileage warranty.

Do Winterforce winter tires have a mileage warranty?

No. Like all Bridgestone-group winter tires they have no mileage warranty and no free-replacement window — defect coverage is prorated only.

Terms above are transcribed from the manufacturer's official Canadian documents (verified 2026-08). Manufacturers can revise terms; their current official documents govern:
